Hotel De Ville
Blend history and culture in the heart of the Capital.
The Hotel de Ville apartment is your very own 'Parisian town house' right in the heart of the Marais museum district. Located on the short, medieval pedestrian street of the Rue des Juges Consuls, the apartment lies between the futuristic, architectural vision that is the Centre de Georges Pompidou to the north and the classical, French Renaissance style Hotel de Ville to the south. An area of historical importance, it was on this very street and indeed, in the very spot where this building is located that the Merchants court of Paris convened to try sellers and tradesmen before judge and jury from 1570-1825.
Close by is the Rue de la Verrerie, named as such because of the guild of glass and enamel workers who installed themselves there from the late 12th century onwards. At number 76, one finds the ancient residence of the Abbot Suger, famous Abbot of the Abbey of St. Denis who is accredited with the initial cultivation and development of the Gothic style of architecture.
On further exploration, you find that you are just a short walk, down winding streets, from artistic treasure chests such as the Picasso museum, the 'Curiosity Shoppe' style museum that is the Musée Carnavalet, and of course, the pantheon of great master paintings and sculptures preserved in the glorious royal castle of the Louvre.
The spacious comfort of our Hotel de Ville apartment therefore provides the perfect haven in which to plan your cultural and historical explorations. Relax at the end of a long day of museum hopping by taking the elevator to the first floor, then putting your feet up to read or watch television in a salon that is flooded by western light streaming through four large windows. The atmosphere of harmony and space is a reflection of the owner's own spiritual inclination, a sentiment which is indicated by the beautiful Buddha sculpture which greets you as you enter the apartment. Other pieces worth observing include a wooden inlaid English 19th century writing desk and most notable the 17th century hand-woven verdure tapestry that provides a subtly textured backdrop to the dining area.
From the corner window of this large living space, one catches a glimpse of the Stravinsky Fountain, in the 'place' of the same name. A surrealist-kinetic creation by Jean Tinguely and his collaborator and wife Nikki de St. Phalle, the fountain is a fanfare of obscure elements including colourful sea-sirens and fantastical beasts not to mention a pair of very large 'May-West style lips 'puckered' in honor of the famous Russian composer whose music inspired the fountain.
But the salon is not the only spacious room in this apartment: there is a large double bedroom with reading chair, an office space, a fully-equipped kitchen, and a comfortably sized bathroom with full-length mirrors that will make this a home away from home that you will never want to leave.
