Cherche-Midi 4

Cherche-Midi 4 in the 6th arrondissement

It’s not as much about the buzz as it is about the thrill you feel when you walk out onto this wonderful old Parisian street of Cherche-Midi. This is the road that the king used to take to go hunting south of Paris…some say the name comes from the rue de la ‘Chasse’ (French for hunt); but no one knows for sure just how the name came about.

Suffice to say that you get the distinct feel of another era as you walk down the street to get your freshly baked Poilâne bread just a few buildings down from the flat. The sumptuous buildings lining the street serve to remind you of a long lost way of living when those of means could afford to have their own private buildings (known as Hôtels Particuliers) as their personal residence. Today, even though these buildings have been divided up into apartments, they still retain the elegance of olden times with high ceilings, carved limestone facades, cobble stoned inner courtyards, and backyard gardens.

This 2 bedroom apartment is a spacious abode that can easily sleep a family of 4. A fifth person could eventually sleep on the couch in the large living room (but it is not a bed couch). The carved limestone mantle is perfectly in keeping with the spirit of the late 18th century building, as is the parquet flooring; but the open kitchen behind the bar bespeaks of modern times. No hotel room can compare with such a dwelling for the same price…particularly when you take into account that you are in the best part of historic Paris, or at least in the part where the real estate prices are the highest, which usually means the most desirable part of the city.

Others may prefer the Right Bank and the Marais district; but for many, this part of the Left Bank is the place to see and be seen. No matter what your preference, however, you cannot go wrong here if you want to feel free to walk, in a few leisurely minutes, from your flat down to the Seine, or meander over to the Orsay Museum, or stroll up to Notre Dame Cathedral. Whatever you want to do, most of historic Paris is within pedestrian reach.

The tourist ideal in Paris is to be able to go home mid-afternoon, after a few hours of tourist wandering and get some rest, only to return to the streets a bit later on without missing a beat. In this location, there is no need to waste valuable time in transit from your lodging to the thick of the action, for this apartment is in a calm haven on a quiet street that is nevertheless in the very heart of Paris. If you enjoy this type of luxury location, then this flat may be just the one for you!

NOTE: Both the CHERCHE MIDI 1 and CHERCHE MIDI 2 flats are in the same building, so if your group needs more than 2 bedrooms, then you might want to consider combining flats. The CHERCHE MIDI 1 is directly across the landing and the CHERCHE MIDI 2 is one flight up. All three flats combined could sleep up to 12 people.

Guest Comments:
It was wonderful. The apartment has overcome our expectations in terms of localization and plan. Thank you and be sure we will be in touch with you next time we go to Paris.
Sincerely yours,
Mara C.

"... this time, I was going until 1 A.M., loading up my car with the following: 2 very large rectangular mirror frames, a lovely porcelain corner sink with its original faucet, an oak cabinet door, a small cheese cabinet door with its wooden grill, more carved marble mantle pieces, a large cast iron skillet, and bits and pieces of carved wood: from molding to cornices."
