Cherche-Midi 3

Rue du Cherche-Midi 3 in the 6th arrondissement

The Chic Life on Rue du Cherche-Midi

For those who know Paris well, the rue du Cherche-Midi is one of those discreet, quintessential Parisian streets that offer a rich diversity of shops, as well as numerous restaurants, bakeries, and cafés. It is a very long street and its name is of uncertain origin; but some surmise that it got its name from the kings of old, who took this straight road out of the city at noontime to go hunting south of Paris.  The name ‘rue de la Chasse à Midi’ could have been transformed into ‘Chasse Midi’ and then Cherche-Midi. Who knows…what matters is that the street embodies the best of Parisian charm with its beautiful‘hôtels particuliers’, inner courtyards, antique shops, tea shops, etc. The rue du Cherche-Midi runs from the Place de la Croix Rouge (which is just a 3 minute walk from St. Germain des Près) all the way down to the Montparnasse area.

This fully furnished, 2 bedroom, 2 bath apartment is located in a completely refurbished limestone building that offers the very best of modern day amenities in a tranquil setting. The elevator is as modern and efficient as can be and the building itself has the latest in multi-layered security (front door code, inner door code, apartment door with high tech locks). The view out over a large garden (with a church and dome just behind the garden) makes for a very peaceful setting in the heart of one of the world’s largest cities.

The apartment has a very contemporary décor that corresponds to the calm, agreeable atmosphere that pervades the building. The kitchen is equipped the best in appliances and the bathrooms are beautifully fitted with stone floors and top notch plumbing installations. Although both bedrooms have single queen size beds, there are 2 bed couches in the living room, so the apartment could easily sleep 4 to 6 persons. The spacious living/dining room area faces west and is full of light; but the motor driven shutters can be closed to provide total darkness for the bedrooms and the living room.

The closest metro stations are DUROC and MONTPARNASSE. The gorgeous Hotel Ferrandi is just 2 buildings down the street and the famous Poilâne Bakery is at the opposite end of the street, down towards St. Germain des Près. The Bonmarché department store with its gourmet grocery store (La Grande Epicerie) is just a few blocks away as well. There is a taxi stand down the street, about 2 blocks away.

"... this time, I was going until 1 A.M., loading up my car with the following: 2 very large rectangular mirror frames, a lovely porcelain corner sink with its original faucet, an oak cabinet door, a small cheese cabinet door with its wooden grill, more carved marble mantle pieces, a large cast iron skillet, and bits and pieces of carved wood: from molding to cornices."
